Drinks All Around

Drinks, almost always red Fanta but sometimes water or something else, are set out for the spirits in Thailand. Usually a straw is sticking out of the bottle or glass.

It is believed that the spirits will take their fill and bless the person who gave the offering and his/her work, store, family, etc. These bright bottles are a constant reminder of the deeply rooted Buddhist beliefs throughout Thailand.

It would be very disrespectful to drink the beverage after it has been offered. Sometimes the bottle is left out until the drink is partially evaporated. Other people will change the drink everyday and quietly/respectfully dispose of the leftovers.
