Mixed Weather

It's been one of those days when it  pours rain, we rush out when the sun comes out and the clouds seem to have cleared, then just as we are at the furthest point from home it begins pouring again. The funny little dark cloud over the sun reminds me a bit of the cow jumping over the moon sun. And the dark layer at the bottom was really dark.

My neighbor Janet was hard at work in her garden wearing the hat I made her, rushing into the house to wait out the rainstorms and back out again to shovel compost and put up her whirligig clothesline. She confessed that the hat was slipping down over her forehead when she was bending over 'which is most of the time' so I took it home, figured out how to undo the bottom rows, pick up the stitches on smaller needles and make some ribbing.

While I was doing that I watched some of the golf tournament at Pebble Beach. There was a brief time in his consulting days, when John was the client and was given some pretty nice perks, one of which was a round of golf at Pebble Beach and a couple of nights in a room for us in the lodge on the 18th green. For some reason, unlike when we were there, this annual tournament is always held at this time of year, and the weather is almost always miserable. They had to call off play yesterday because the wind was blowing the ball off the green and into the ocean!

I have always held that golf is an impossible game and if I ever got a ball into the hole it would be a miracle, yet these guys make it look easy. There was lots of talk about spin and club faces and grips and stances, lofts and lies which I suppose were an attempt to describe how they do it, but I was none the wiser.  It was better weather on the Monterey peninsula today though, and I enjoyed the scenery and they were able to finish yesterday's round before the rain and wind arrived again....

Tomorrow is supposed to be much better weather so we can dry out once again.
