Salt and Light
Regarding yesterday, I really think we were the ones who benefitted most. Gave us so much joy. And, this morning in church, this was the gospel reading, from Jesus' manifesto for his ministry:
You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot.
You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.
(Matthew 5v13-16)
Basically, we wouldn't actually be any good as humans if we didn't help those who need it, would we?
As for the Romanian perpetrators, apparently, the whole thing is well known by the authorities, but powerful folk benenfit from the cheap labour and a blind eye is turned... sound familiar??
Gratefuls:
- Just heard, Paul, our son, has proposed to his girlfriend, Felicity, and she has accepted!!! We are thrilled. (Deb's photo, in extra, now added.)
- Padre Abrão accompanying us to the Adega after church
- finding paint to contribute to the Ciganos doing up their church for a six day knees-up they're having, with folk coming from loads of other churches
