Excelsior Place, 10 Years On
The gales continue to batter the isles, along with showers, breaking now and again with blue skies and sunshine. Flat calm and clear tonight.
I was up at 5am, the Up Helly Aa celebrations were still going strong at that time, halls close around 8am, then after parties, breakfast or much needed sleep. For me, it was another early shift in the airport. I was meeting and boarding flights in the morning, on the check-in desk in the afternoon. A busy day with visitors starting to head home. A couple of delays with the wind, but they all made it in. Nipped into Madeline's on my way home. A fine evening for walkies with Sammy, but mostly lazy on the sofa. Off to bed early again.
Another ten years on photo, this time a block of flats. On the site used to sit our old cinema and nightclub, the North Star, joined on next door was the Excelsior bar. The two lovely old buildings were demolished in 2011. Ten years ago they were still in the early stages of construction of the new building, now mostly new and much needed homes, along with a couple of commercial units. They named the block after the old pub, Excelsior Place, Harbour Street, Lerwick.

Extra show a photo I took in 2011 and also one today showing the whole building.
