Jean Dominique
After watching The Agronomist this weekend, each day this week I have been inspired by Jean Dominique. Jean Dominique was a Haitian journalist who was murdered on April 3, 2000. He used his words and journalism to reveal the truth and inspire change, using nonviolence despite the violent opponents he faced. Though this is an admittedly average photo, I encourage everyone to watch the documentary and learn a little more about Jean Dominique. Shortly before he was murdered, Jean Dominique could feel the pressure rising against him, and he said the following:
"[Their] mistake... was to think that a bit of terrorism on the part of street thugs would give access to our microphone...Yeah I know that [Dany Toussaint] has weapons... Here I have no weapons other than my journalism, my microphone and my unquenchable faith as a militant for true change... I close with Shakespeare: 'The truth will always make the devil's face blush!"
Jean Dominique was murdered shortly thereafter, likely because he continuously uncovered corruption and would not be 'bought off' by the government.
