Estes Postcard

In the early days, miners came to Estes Valley to strike it rich in silver mines. But the mines proved poor, and all they found was beauty.

Funny how that beauty has endured!

This view of the Mummy Range contains several coveted peaks. On the left rises Longs Peak, the highest in the park. For many hikers, Longs is the "mist-conquer" hike. On the right, the peak with the very obvious diagonal face, is Hallett, my favorite. Surrounding Hallett are Flat Top (to the right) and Thatch Top (on the left). Thatch Top appears to be be spilling over.

I haven't ascended Long's yet, but its peculiar charm has captured myimagination. As the snow on the right side melts over the summer, a beautiful white dove appears,
