Ken Buchanan - and Jenners!
I was up and about early(for me) today. Over to Ikea first as something they hadn't had in stock yesterday was available today. Back onto town and to Easter Road to the cobblers in Edina Street where I have been going for years.
I parked along nearer the end of London Road and walked up to John Lewis for my free facial. The therapist is going to give me a supply of moisturiser samples to take with me to India, to give to the staff at school. I was very taken with the kindness of the offer, which came from out of the blue.
While I was there, the therapist and I both suddenly noticed a burning smell but couldn't work out what it was, then someone came past and said that Jenners was on fire. It didn't sound too major at the time. It's been burning all day though and it sounds as if our beautiful building is going to be devastated. I'm so sad, it was such a lovely place and was being largely restored as part of it's new incarnation. I know it's not the equivalent of Notre Dame or anything like it really, but it feels like it!
Like the wise men, I went home by another route.
We had bridge this evening and I'm pleased to say that we appear to have returned to form and won tonight. I presented the winning and runner up pairs with fortune cookies to mark Chinese New Year!
My blip today is of a statue, beside John Lewis, of Ken Buchanan which I have never noticed before. I did spot that it has only been there six months, so that was a relief to me. It seems a strange choice of site. It's very prominent. Boxing is one of those sports which leaves me cold to the extent that I would take positive steps to avoid watching it. I can't understand the mentality which accepts hurting somebody deliberately, being a form of entertainment. The plaque from the statue is in my extras.
On a happier note, thanks for all the kind words about Jenny today. She phoned today, as did her daughter, to say that the nurse thought it most likely that she had fainted yesterday, possibly because she was too hot, but they don't suspect anything more sinister which is a huge relief.
