Ice
Walked down to pick up the papers through eerie sunlit fog and mist. Swerved the flood in the lane by walking through the field and across this sheet of ice. It still feels transgressive to crack the ice as if we should be leaving it pure for the mice to scamper over. Rang Mum who told us her heating was broken so I dispatched my local brother (we care along old fashioned gender lines) whilst I went into town to stock up her fridge and freezer. The boiler had tripped and an electrician, who M had called, finding the number in the black book, fixed it.
Jono, Mum and I had lunch in the conservatory and the sun came in from the cold through the glass and made the whole room warm and pleasant. J went off and Mum and I walked round the village. We saw the first snowdrops beginning to emerge, none yet on Dad’s grave where we planted them last year.
Came home late afternoon and started putting stuff back into the newly painted rooms, culling as I went and planning to make it less of a dumping ground for my ‘archive’ and more guest appropriate. I now have to find somewhere to put the ‘archive’.
V cooked a lovely lamb dinner and we watched bonkers Indian movie RRR which has become a breakout hit (available on Netflix).
