Misty, chilly afternoon
It's been a funny old day. Bev and I walked down to Myrtle at 7.15am with just the suggestion of a glimmer of sunrise on the horizon, we're getting there!
It was very cold but we warmed up on our walk and as we circled the park laying out the cones and trying to force the signs in to frozen ground. The meadow was solid with a white, crispy covering, very pretty. Event Director Steve had used his amazing engineering skills to produce a lean, mean, gritting machine out of a skateboard, two bungees and an old crate. We did think the addition of the avalanche shovel a bit extreme. I'm pretty sure we would be cancelling if there was a risk of avalanche in Myrtle.
The sun rose briefly but then the mist, which had been hovering wraithlike over the trees near the river, began to expand and extend. As the parkrunners and parkwalkers gathered, the mist cloaked the top side of the park and the temperature plummeted. I was very glad to be tailwalking today as it was tough for the marshals standing in their allotted spots slowly chilling through. Friend K was doing her very first parkrun so we walked around together and did some serious catching up.
After the event, we arrived home and a warm bath did the trick.
My blip is the view through the window a short while ago with that freezing mist hanging over the village. Looking out now, the sun seems to be finally winning and it is clearing.
