As is obvious I've stitched two images together but I was trying to recreate the skyline to the north as we walked through the woods from Sealeyham Manor (where the dog breed was invented) towards Wolfscastle directly into the lowering sun.
Although it was not yet 3pm on a cloudless afternoon the noise emanating from the bushes and trees along the field boundary suggested that overnight accommodation was already being claimed and disputed, as if a huge party of travellers was arguing over room allocation simultaneously at the top of their voices.
It was of course starlings coming to roost (scroll down). There was no flocking or murmuration in evidence only a barely-visible sky-scattering of birds like black pepper grains but the noise created a that immersed the landscape we walked though.
Returning an hour later all was quiet.
