Elephant Island

Today we starting leaving the Antarctic Peninsula heading for South Georgia. There was hope of a landing at Elephant Island en route but sadly, the winds yet again prevented that. However, it was incredible to actually see the little site that Shackleton’s men reached - rocks, glacier and a cliff face but it was the first land they’d stood on in 16 months.

I’ve borrowed one of Gs photos as mine don’t do it justice.

In the afternoon, we heard the story again thanks to one of the ship’s historians … an amazing story of bravery, courage, hope & tenacity.
