Pirelli Park on a Cold and Frosty Morning
We awoke to a very cold and frosty morning. By 8am, the floor fitter had arrived to begin laying the Karndean flooring. He didn't leave until he had finished at 6pm! He's done a great job. Just a few bits of tidying up required now.
We enjoyed a more leisurely day, firstly attending ukulele class in Eastleigh. The old Pirelli cable works were redeveloped a few years ago with the building of new housing and the creation of this park and playground on the old site. The extra shows an interesting climbing frame based on the design of cable reels.
Afterwards, I caught up with some neglected correspondence and admin. In the evening we joined a Zoom meeting arranged by our London Livery Company with four speakers talking about their jobs in the City of London. One of them was one of the four City Ale -Conners whose job is to test the quality of beers. Nowadays, it is a ceremonial role but occasionally she dons her special leather breeches and sits on a wooden stool on which a pint of beer has been poured. After a minute, she stands up and should the stool stick to her trousers, this would indicate the beer contains too much sugar and not enough alcohol. Fortunately, this has never happened, and she has always passed the beers on test. Another speaker works in the Lord Mayor's office arranging his diary. It is a very busy year and the Lord Mayor has about a dozen engagements each day, some face to face, and others virtually, working from 8am to about 11pm if there is a dinner to attend.
My sister bravely phoned our Mother late afternoon and found she was having a better day . Phew!
