Steamer

Our Shagya Arabian horse has always suffered from lung problems, a very common issue with horses and their essential but very sensitive breathing apparatus. Has cost a fortune in vet & clinic costs over the years.

Many of the problems come from fine dust & spores in hay. The usual quick solution is to wet or soak the hay beforehand to expand the size of the fine particles so that they are swallowed and not breathed in. A bit hit & miss & very problematic in winter with freezing temperatures and also the 'soggy' nature of the food, I guess like eating porridge every meal.

So Angie has finally built herself a device to steam the hay, which also has the advantage of killing off spores. Using a normal DIY shop wallpaper stripper, steam fed into bottom of plastic rainwater container. Takes about an hour. The horses seem to love it, and it really does smell good.
