Down by the riverside
This part of the River Clyde is not in the city boundary, but instead lies in the adjacent South Lanarkshire. The area though is Dalmarnock, and to the right there used to be a power station. They tried to bomb it during the second world war, but missed several times and nearly got my Aunt Hannah who lived nearby and quite literally lived to tell the tale. She'd have been amazed to know that next year, this area will form the principal surroundings for the Commonwealth Games.
There's a cycle path by the river, and as homonym, there's quite possibly a psychopath too. It's not a pretty area, and although someone I know terms it the North Rutherglen Riviera, it's a stretch of the river with the occasional rower and not much else. You wouldn't visit alone under cover of darkness.
We used our river for industry and in some parts it's beautiful, but it'd be just fantastic if we had the cash to match the vision to use the river as an asset and have housing and open it up in evenings. Reclaiming the river sounds a mite pretentious as an objective, and I'm not talking Camden Lock or Salford Quays but you know what I mean. STV, BBC and others are now by the river in the city - it's a draw and an attraction. Let's just replicate along the river.
