Nature Diary...Friendly little Blackbird

Gradually this young Blackbird has got used to coming to the fat ball feeders and is gradually plucking up courage to stand in the open for a few more seconds every day. He's still very nervous and hasn't seen me yet but the arrival of two new cats in the neighbourhood has started to spook some of our regular visitors so I'm pleased he's ultra cautious.

I caught sight of our lovely little Wren hopping about in our currently denuded Weigla bush (too fast to photograph) and I might try putting some sort of feeder in the bush as I doubt any cats will be able climb up through the closely dense, currently bare branches.

When we had 2 cats and a Border Terrier we let them all into the garden every night with instructions to "Do a wee".... and they all did!. Sometimes our lovely little Terrier just assumed the position even if that was all she did, and I stood at the door, waited and watched, and called them back in within a few appropriate minutes.  They all 3 ran in together and all 3 slept comfortably indoors in their chosen places all night.
There was never, ever any night time indoor 'accident' from any of them, ever. One of the cats came to us as a tiny kitten, and our other cat and our beautiful little Border Terrier were rescue animals.
