Nature Diary... Bird Feeders.....My Idea

Having grown somewhat tedious of watching the beautiful but food-demolishing Starlings I’ve once more resorted to my DIY style of feeder (not used when Starlings are flocking elsewhere)

Design:
1) Choose one of your existing feeders the top of which can be removed, and remove it.

2) Using a plastic salad holder which currently still comes with supermarket salads, turn it upside down and cut a circle in the centre of what was the base, using the open top of the feeder as the size guide.

3) Put the inverted bowl on top of the open feeder and push it through the hole to part way down towards the feeding perches.

4) Using a little hot glue gun (try a Hobbycraft store or Amazon) and glue round the edge of the hole in the salad bowl to the body of the feeder.

5) When dry (a few brief moments) replace the  hanging fixings of the feeder securely, then add bird seed and close the top.

6) Prepare to smile contentedly when next a flock of Starlings appears and fails to demolish all your bird food.

7) And feel very happy that some little birds can now feed there again whilst also sheltering from the rain :-)

(In the illustration I’ve chosen feeders with different perches as some birds can’t manage to land on the one with the smallest perches.)
