San Sebastián de La Gomera
A beautiful day of sunshine and warmth, calm too. Much the same again tonight.
Up early, caught the tour bus and headed to the ferry. We arrived in La Gomera just after 10am. A tour of the isle, through the mountains, various villages and the lush green forest. The forest was quite chilly at 16⁰c, it also looked, felt and sounded like any Scottish forest. Lunch at a local restaurant and had amazing Canaries food, with a local waitress giving us the sounds of the whistle language. Learned plenty about the local wildlife and vegetation, really interesting. The Three King's public holiday was on, so most things were closed. Back in the ferry ro Tenerife, a few pints in the local, Coconut Cocktails, then a quiet night in the hotel.
Back to the capital, which is about the same size as Lerwick, rhe whole isle is about the same as Shetland. We walked to Christopher Columbus' house he stayed in while visiting here from 1492, also the kirk he attended, but it was this little colourful streets that caught my eye. The best thing about the whole isle, it's no been eaten up with tourism, it stills holds that traditional charm and look. No mass hotels, no resorts, just local people and tourists in small numbers. I will defo have to come visit here again. A street view, with the Columbus kirk on the right, San Sebastián de La Gomera.
