I Hope I Get It

I can’t decide if I’m a glutton for punishment or an attention seeking junkie. There has to be some logical reason as to why I’m down in Lancaster, auditioning for a role in a play tonight, when Panto hasn’t even started yet! I’ve even risen from my sickbed to be here, so I really must be desperate!
Footlights are putting on “Blackadder” at the beginning of March, and I’d love to be a part of it as it’s one of my favourite comedies. I also have a bit of a track record doing plays based on TV comedies with Footlights. I was Captain Mainwaring in Dads Army, Foggy Dewhurst in Last of the Summer Wine and David Horton (twice!) in The Vicar of Dibley.
Sadly, I feel I am now too old to go for the lead roles - Blackadder, Baldrick, Percy - but I reckon I could make a go of Melchett. Failing that, I wouldn’t mind doubling up on a few of the minor roles as there are some great lines to be had there.
Anyway, I managed to croak my way through a few scenes and I’m hoping I’ve done enough to get something. Fortunately I worked with the director last summer so at least she knows what I’m capable of when I’m fully fit!
