Hatsumode
During the first few days of the new year, many Japanese people head out for hatsumode, the first shrine visit of the year, to pray, make wishes, express gratitude, and stock up on lucky charms.
Buddhist temples and Shinto shrines are lively on this day, with snack vendors and stalls set up in the grounds of the shrine and on the surrounding roads which are closed to traffic for a few days.
Happy New Year Blip Buddies! May your 2023 be filled with health, happiness and contentment.
