Pastel Japonês

Four cheese pastel japonês.

I have no idea why these are called pasteis japonês (Japanese pastries), but they are common and popular throughout Pernambuco. I'm not sure if these are regional or if they are common throughout Brazil. Pastry is filled and deep fried, and a variety of fillings are available (cheese and Calabrese are probably the most popular fillings).
