Snow on Mt Teide
Thunder storms through the night and morning, bringing serious torrential rains. Finally dried in the afternoon, but stayed overcast. Snow on the mountains. Windy tonight, but clear skies.
Up early, and the hotel dining room was flooded from the rain overnight, had to watch our step. Headed to the local bus stop, and joined our tour. After picking up rest of the passengers, we headed to the mountains, reaching 5,000 feet. It was at this point, our guide informed us the tour was being cancelled, due to snow closures on all mountain roads. Back to the hotel to wait for the rain to stop. In the afternoon we headed down to the main strip for some shopping. Evening meal, and now a quiet night at the hotel bar.
I knew the volcanic mountains here do get snow over the winter months, but after the lovely warm spell of weather, never thought we'd see it. More Atlantic storms to hit tomorrow. Standing at 12,198 feet, it's bound to be cold up there in winter, even here in the sub tropics. Mt Teide is also the highest point of all Spain. We've rebooked our trip for Thursday, maybe need to get a pair of ski boots. Looking to a snow covered Mt Teide from our hotel, Laguna Park II, Costa Adeje, Tenerife.
