Another happy day

We’ve had another lovely day. Although the children were late to bed and up early they sorted their own breakfast and remained in good form all day. (#2 daughter got up to let Sandy out but had another sleep.)

We had a chilled morning after the smoked salmon, scrambled eggs and Bucks Fizz breakfast, then we all had a walk along the Waggonway where I achieved my final few miles to surpass my target of 1000 miles this year. I’m quite proud of myself as I had plantar fasciitis and other foot trouble for some of the year.

The children had dim sum for lunch and we all had our Christmas pudding and brandy butter that there was no time (or inclination) for yesterday. Thomas did his Rubix cube in 1.34 mins. He’s aiming for under a minute. He’s not mastered the 5 sided one though.

Then it was time to set off to Gibside to do the light trail. There was a palaver at the car park as #3 daughter had booked the tickets but you had to also pay extra to park. And horror we had no proof she had done this. We all arrived before her so the attendant wasn’t going to let us park without the permit. Of course a queue built up behind us so nobody could get in till we moved. So she let us in. (Of course #3 had paid). The rain came on briefly but didn’t dampen spirits. It was all very pretty.

#3 and family have been invited by her oldest friend (Chris’s daughter) to stay in their holiday house for a night at the pretty Newton by the Sea on Wednesday - Nathaniel sighed and asked when he’d be sleeping in his own bed again. Thomas said that in future we shouldn’t plan stuff for Boxing Day as he needed to chill out after all the excitement of Christmas. #2 daughter and I teased them “oh no, not more fun, we can’t stand more fun and treats”. However it was a good point.
