Christmas Cake
As has become a family tradition over very many years, our Christmas cake is always decorated as a snow scene with a sledging or ski slope. One or more of our three sons is commissioned to decorate it with Playmobil* figures which are kept for the purpose. There's always a story to go with it - often a weird and somewhat convoluted one. This year the story is simpler than most.
Sons 2&3 did the honours this time, along with Son#2's partner. As I understand it, Saint Nicholas had been off on his sleigh to get his Christmas tree. On his way home, the tree obstructed his view of where where he was going (and he'd had a few "merry sherries" anyway) so sadly he ran into a group of children out carol singing (or maybe just playing in the snow, the story seems a little uncertain at this point). Robin Hood happened to be nearby on his horse and bellowed at St Nicholas with his megaphone to slow down, and a passing soldier blew the alarm on his bugle. The whole scene was observed by a friendly snowman but being fixed to the spot he was unable to offer assistance.
(Sometimes I doubt the sanity of our offspring, the youngest of whom is now 30!)
Anyway we've had a lovely family day. Son#2 & his partner are staying with us at present; Son#3 came for much of the day and his fiancee joined us for a while after lunching with her family. We had a Skype chat with Son#1 and his wife (and Granddog Oona) in Ontario (where the weather is just a tad chilly at the moment - seemingly Oona likes the snow but is a little puzzled as to why it's quite so cold!) We hope all our blipfriends have had a really good time too.
