Smoothie bike
Keynotes did very well this morning in their Coffee, cake, ceilidh and carnival singing time. It was a good attendance of all sorts of people with their fund raising abilities (or Wallet!) They even managed the Gaelic. Well done :-D
I was setting up the smoothie bike on loan from the food co-op and didn't really get a feel for what else was going on around the place, because kids arrived and wanted to have a shot so it was All hands to the pumps - or fruit in the blenders or something like that. SO there was no opportunity to get a blip of the hall set up, the tables all set up - with cakes and biscuits and stuff all laid out, the seats at the side with the kids' tartan sash things nor of all the Trans4M team who had gathered to speak and help.
I also missed the chance of getting pics of kids singing but I think a few facebook friends got some, so I'll go and copy!
Instead, I was in the Front doorway (we reckoned the best place to keep the noise in!) sorting fruit, juice, bananas, kids and smoothie glasses. It was fun really! Just I wasn't expecting it to be so busy so early. and I could have done with a couple of assistants - I should have grabbed some older kids!
The whole bike is set on a rigid frame. At the front, the mechanism of a blender has been fitted above the wheel. The sprocket that turns the blender blades are turned by the wheel - and the wheel of course is turned by someone pedalling. It's really heavy to turn, so most of the wee kids gave up - but there were a few who stood around waiting for this chance to help the wee ones. Also to jump on if they said they couldn't do any more!
(for the record, the smaller the child peddling, the lumpier the smoothie! In fact, I think their drinks should have been called Fruit Lumpies.)
It's ALL VERY LOUD THOUGH AND YOU FIND YOURSELF SHOUTING AND THEN suddenly it stops and you can be heard saying things like "SO IT JUST FELL OFF HER" and any other inappropriate things!!!
There is a half ton of fruit in my fridge. No, I'll not be making smoothies out it but I did have berry crumble last night. I will make a few banana loaves though and freeze them for the start of Keynote term!
Many Many thanks to Wifi for helping me move the stuff at the end and of course Congratulations to the Wonderful Mags (assisted at times by Mr Mags) for organising, doing, copying, teaching, controlling, schmoozing etc etc. Have a great summer break!!!!
