Free compost!!!
Every year on one Sunday morning the council give away compost made from the contents of the food bins that we put out each week for recycling. Good system.... as it makes sure that you are up early on that morning, as when the container is empty, that's it for another year!!
We collected 4 bags for ourselves and then went back for 3 bags for our neighbour who had gone to church.
Back home to sort out some space in the garage to house the 19 jars of rhubarb chutney made on Friday evening. We haven't finished all of the chutney made in September '11, so P there is a large jar with your name on it which will be waiting at home when you return at the end of next month. It has matured well and packs quite a punch. Anyone interested in making it can find the recipe on this blip.
Auntie Helen is my 93yr old aunt who lives in Banff (NE Scotland) and up until her 90th birthday looked after the garden and grew her own vegetables and fruit. She gave me this recipe which has been widely shared and enjoyed.
This time last year we returned from a trip to India & Nepal. Our bird box had a Great tit family with 6 babies. This year the box is empty :0( There were 2 pair of great tits in the garden before the last fall of snow, but they have disappeared.
