Barony Centre
Looking for something to do on a wet Saturday morning, we headed to West Kilbride, now branded as Scotland's Craft Town, with the particular intention of visiting the Barony Centre which opened last year. It is an old church that lay derelict for many years before being converted into an exhibition and workshop space. It's an interesting conversion - very light and airy, with an attractive cafe overlooking the main street, though it wasn't a day for al fresco dining.
When we asked if it was OK to take photos, we were generously offered a tour of the building, shown its impressive facilities and given a potted history by one of the volunteer staff. This photo contrasts features of the original and new architecture and shows some of the current exhibits. Locally made jewellery and crafts are also available to purchase.
