horseshoe crabs

Memorial Day, but we went out briefly to check out the horseshoe crabs. We saw a lot of mating pairs today and a couple of devil's threesomes (two dudes), also known as a pileup. Seriously.

This is the underside of a male horseshoe crab. No, we did not pull this one off of a female. We wouldn't disturb them while they were gettin it on. The top claws are for holding onto the female's shell, the male's shell is curved to better fit on top of the female.
