Sally Mair - Loving life

By Sallymair

Fishnets?

Another extremely cold day when the temperature hasn't risen above freezing point all day. The sun has shone though so in the sunshine it was quite bearable.
Note to self. Do not get your hair cut short (as I did today) when the weather is bitter! I'll be wearing a hat for a few weeks I can see, to make sure my ears don't stop off!

I went to deliver a card to the husband of our friend who died on Saturday. As I got to the house (less than 100yds away) a police car draw up. I spoke to the two female officers and sure enough they were going in to see Bill so I decided I would go back another time.

Tonight we were looking after Katy's girls as she had a departmental night in. We picked them up from after school club then Colin took them to Eilidh's violin lesson and I went to their house to get dinner organised - which involved cooking sausages for Isobel as she doesn't like fish. Colin, Eilidh and I had fish suppers which they picked up on the way back from violin and Isobel shared the chips. A treat for them. We watched the end of Strictly, which had been recorded, before they went off to bed.

My blip today is my pond in the garden. As you can see the water is still running thanks to the little pond heater in there. It doesn't use any more power than a light bulb but keeps the area around it above freezing point. You can tell it's on because the fish all huddle around it! I'm glad we have it this winter or the fish might not survive. I rather like the patterns the ice makes on the net which protects the residents from the marauding otters. It's all happening in Blackhall you know!
The other achievement of today was getting the rest of the Christmas cards, which we had written last night, posted. I had to get some stamped and staff were very keen that I knew there was a strike day tomorrow. Hopefully they'll make it in time though. The ones I posted last Friday arrived on Saturday so hopefully these will be as speedy once the strike days are passed.
