Diary of an Edinburgher

Lunch date

Jings it was COLD today. Mind you, not as cold as at Braemar in Aberdeenshire where it was -15°!! That’s Canadian temperatures. Denise came to take Archie out, while I did a bit of exercise on my bike to stay warm. JR walked to the gym!

I then spent a lot of time, online and on the phone, trying to change/ arrange/ organise travel insurance for next year. In fact, I rang them again as I walked to lunch, thinking I’d just sort it in minutes, but I just got to be first in the queue when we reached the lunch destination, so JR had to go on in to meet Elizabeth while I spoke to someone on the phone, but will have to do it again tomorrow. Turns out I can’t just renew last year’s one - the underwriters are not doing it any more. I didn’t question if it was just us they ‘weren’t doing’, or a business decision…

We took Elizabeth out for lunch to celebrate her birthday. We went to a nice wee Italian place in Bruntsfield. Archie stayed at home, as he’s not keen on restaurants, though we didn’t tell him Elizabeth would be there…

I then walked along to the bus stop and went swimming! Yes! The pool has been closed for several days, so I needed to use my free days. But my theory that afternoons are best, not so busy, proved wrong! The ‘slow’ bit of the pool had six people in - too many for me to hog a side. Besides, it was pretty cool. As in: freezing!

So I popped in to the much warmer teaching pool, but it was fenced off with lessons in one half. I flopped around for a bit, but I just wasn’t in the mood. Will I go tomorrow? Not sure… it really is a big effort taking one’s clothes off and on.

This was a selfie in one of the decorated shops. Do not look large - it’s scary - my face has melted…
