Winter in the reedbeds

For many years, it has been a tradition for our local RSPB group to visit Titchfield  Haven National Nature Reserve,  on a Sunday  in December .
Today  was chosen for this year's trip. The reserve is at the mouth of the River Meon on the shores of the Solent, near Fareham. It was freezing cold, and later rain /sleet fell which drove  us  home earlier than usual. On the shore, we had good views of Turnstones busily  turning stones (of course!) as they searched for food, Sanderling, Oystercatchers, Dunlin, and a couple of Ring Necked Plovers. In the reserve, in and around  the partially  frozen lagoons, were some Snipe, Curlew, Lapwing, a Marsh Harrier, Shoveler and Teal ducks, various  gulls and  Cormorants.
In the past we have occasionally seen Bitterns skulking there too, but not today. In the reed beds were Stonechats, Wrens, Robins,  and  someone spotted a Bearded Tit. My blip shows Canada geese flying into land on the reserve.
