Arrival

We came to Venice on our honeymoon, and thought it would be fantastic to come back one day, and arrive at one of the hotel jetties at the Lido in a water taxi. So it feels good to actually do it.

We're staying at the Hotel Des Bains (which was the setting for Death In Venice) and it has a suitably grand, old-fashioned charm. We get the Vaporetto to Venice itself, and spend the afternoon just mooching around (not forgetting to enjoy a Bellini in Harry's Bar) before having a huge, delicious scoff at a restaurant near L'Accademia followed by an early night.

Well, we had set off at 4 o'clock in the morning.
