inspiration all around us

Inspired by a brick.

The name on bricks has always fascinated me. I spotted this one in Rayrigg woods. There is a disused quarry here somewhere and so I suppose this was part of a rubble roadway roughly laid to make a firm route out for the quarried stone.
A local dog walker suggested that it would be Claughton Brickworks, just over 30 miles away. The firm is still in production and has an aerial ropeway for carrying clay in buckets. It is the sole surviving industrial aerial ropeway in Britain!
