Wailin' on the Bagpipes

When's the last time you heard Jingle Bell Rock played on the bagpipes? The excellent Santa Cruz High Marching Band brightened up the rainy morning with a medley of holiday songs. Earlier on the younger kids played under wraps, and over 70 schools, organizations and businesses danced and sang, skated and tumbled, and generally overcame the dreary drippy weather with seasonal cheer. Santa himself closed the parade, waving a cheery good morning to all. We were there to support our granddaughter who coaches the high school cheerleaders; she was supervising their parade performance. She is in the very back of their photo, in black, with a raised arm, but you can't really see her face. I can remember when we used to take her and her brother to watch the parade, and now she's in it. I can remember when her dad was in the parade as well, as a little elf giving out candy canes. There's a lot of history on that street.
