The Fullarton

Today's the day .......................... for 'Living'

An evening out at The Fullarton  Cinema & Theatre in Castle Douglas to see the new film starring Bill Nighy, entitled 'Living'.

It is British drama in which the South African director, Oliver Hermanus and Japanese-born British novelist Kazuo Ishiguro have collaborated.  The story is based on the iconic 1952 Japanese film Ikiru, which in turn was inspired by the 1886 Russian novella, The Death of Ivan Ilyich by Leo Tolstoy - so its credentials run deep.

Although you might think that it shouldn't work, it does, magnificently.  The result is a supremely graceful and affecting film, set in 1953 London and depicting a bureaucrat (played exquisitely by Bill Nighy) who is facing a fatal illness.  An excellent film - and if you get the chance, well worth watching  ..............
