Adrift on the estuary

A big exploration day today and would you look at the sunshine! Nine wells on the agenda and this was a remarkable one. It's on the banks of the Shannon estuary and gets properly covered twice a day yet the water within remain fresh and pure. It holds a cure for sore eyes and here's Robert going down to the water hopefully. In the nearby altar enclosure a statue of the BVM is covered in offerings including glasses. Possibly dedicated to St Jude, feast day 14/15th August. I'd have loved to see it when it was inundated, adrift like a little ship.
Shortly after this we were desperate for coffee and came across a tiny cafe in a tiny village. I had apple pie - with (unexpectedly) cream, ice cream and custard!! This seems to be a Limerick thing for the next day a slice of bakewell was taken with the same accompaniments! Just what's needed when well hunting. You have to keep your strength up for this kind of thing.
