STRANGERS MEET

A Canada Goose (Branta canadensis) just flew in from the far north of Wisconsin and met a Trumpeter Swan (Cygnus buccinator) who was having a drink and resting in a small pond at the zoo in Milwaukee.

BTW.....That swan is a BIG bird....nearly twice the size of the goose with a 6 foot wing span. They usually need a pretty long run across the water's surface to enough speed to get airborne and this was not a very large pond. I didn't stick around to watch but if he made it into the air it wasn't by much.

The goose seems to be asking the swan..."where's the best place to get some food around here?"  Always a good thing to ask when you have fuel up for the remainder of your annual trip south for the winter.

You can see that most of the snow we had has melted thanks to a short spell of warm weather but there's a honking strong wind out there today ushering in a foot of snow farther north but the consensus is that we'll get freezing rain around here......just what I need on a night when I'm shooting a high school basketball game between county rivals.

Perhaps it won't materialize.....I'm hoping that if it does it will wait until after I get home around 21:00.
