Sally Mair - Loving life

Advent 1

Sunday today and it's the first Sunday of Advent. Nice not to be on duty and to be able to relax while we sang the Advent hymns. Today is the first Sunday of the new church year and it begins a time of preparation before Christmas. Two of my Cursillo friends who are clearly concerned at the amount of Christian study I'm not doing, sent me Advent Books. This one, produced by the Iona Community and focusing on 21st century life in the Holy Land, started today. I remembered in time and so for once am not playing catch up! It was our church AGM today and as treasurer, Colin began to relax after that was over.

Kathryn and Isobel came to join us for lunch which was nice. Isobel and I made egg toast using a baguette. J is on nights so was sleeping and Eilidh was at a friend's house.

We finally put organised and booked tickets for the Botanics lights events on the 20th, we usually go on Katy's birthday but as J is working that evening we decided to go a couple of days earlier.

Four weeks tonight many of us will be suffering from the excesses of Christmas so this is a good time to remember those who will be hungry and going short. I do a sort of reverse advent calendar each year. I take a box and every day in Advent I put something into it and then take the box to a foodbank. It's a good way to remember how very lucky I am to be safe and to have enough. Of course I do have a chocolate calendar too - Lindt which is my favourite. :-)
