sleep - no chnce!

The last full day in the Lakes has proven to be the wettest so we all got our waterproofs on and went for a wee wander round Windermere in a vain attempt to get daughter number two to sleep but as you can see from my blip, we failed miserably. We did however get some lovely cakes from the artisan bakery on the corner of main street and broad street. For me it was a vienesse finger and for the wife, a slice of carrot cake. Daughter number 1 didn't fancy a cake so she got a Hello Kitty lolly from the co-op.

I will be quite sad leaving behind the Lakes and heading back up North and homeward bound. I have been lucky in my life to spend a lot of time in wild places and have travelled the length and breadth of Scotland chasing after bagging mountains and sleeping in the great outdoors. I have to say though that there is something quite special about the Lakes. I cannot quite put my finger on it. Is it the sweet smell of wood smoke in the air, the colour of the slate as it's gets sodden in the rain, the teashops, the real ales, the food, the amiable folk?? The scenery is absolute breathtaking but similar to Scotland so I don't think it is that. All I know is that this is the third year in a row that we've been done here and I am pretty sure that it won't be the last.
