Diary of an Edinburgher

Krakow Day Six

A slow start this morning, though JR popped to the gym before breakfast. We then walked into the main square, for we were going to the exhibition underneath the square. We’ve looked for it several times, and even asked the Welsh people from yesterday, who are seasoned Krakow visitors, but they’d never found the entrance either.

First we found the art gallery upstairs. I was refused entry by a very officious man, who ordered me back out of the door and pointed to the sign saying ‘No backpacks, umbrellas, big bags allowed’. It also listed ‘outer wear’ ie coats. And it wasn’t that warm! So we went and got our money back and didn’t bother going in.

The underground museum was more accommodating. In fact it’s a most splendid set up - amazing displays and film recreations of the excavations of settlements in centuries gone by. It was all very well displayed and lit. And it was extensive. The artifacts that have been found were fascinating - lots of jewellery, and keys, and shoes and knives and bowls. There were long glass walkways covering the excavations underneath. It was a truly wonderful exhibition.

Then we just came back to the hotel for the afternoon. Today was the first quite cold day, with a chilly breeze. JR availed herself of the spa again.

We booked for dinner in the hotel tonight, and popped down to the cocktail bar beforehand. It’s just SO NICE there.

The dining room (our breakfast room also) did not disappoint.  It was transformed into an evening venue - white table cloths, subdued lighting, calm music, excellent service by charming waistcoated waiters, and the most wonderful meals! This is my sea bass main course - how pretty is that! JR had an equally superb beef cheeks main.

Last day tomorrow. No, we’re not going to visit Auschwitz.
