Winter reading?

We were given these by our friends who have just visited, for Winter reading. ( The sun is shining and it is 22°C at the moment) Nice thought, but after a quick scan I don't think many are to our taste. Modern Novels seem to consist mainly of foul language, gratuituos violence and shocking lack of Grammar. If American they are full of "Gotten, Gotta, aughtta, and not an o u in sight.! We will see, the Tom Clancy will not even be opened, as that will be the same as all of his, an insult to anyone who isn't American and full of characters with stupid Nick Names...
