Bites

The sun was already rising over Dar es Salaam by the time I crashed into bed. It was an inadequate day on the sleep front, however three positive developments had happened by the time I shuffled out of the office:

1. some leave approved for next week so I can go on a mini-adventure for my birthday
2. notice that one of our funding bids has progressed to the second stage
3. an offer of some leftover ‘bites’ from Mariam which she had pilfered from a work event earlier in the day

The bites powered me through the final hours of the day, my own cupboards bare after a month away. For dinner I stumbled upon somewhere called Church Burger, and I was slow on the uptake that this was more of a religious centre for youth than a restaurant. Despite being a side hustle, the food was very tasty and I will be returning to Church Burger. I ordered Abel Burger (crispy chicken) and Disciple Fries to background choral muzak. These names are not fabricated.
