Savages

Just catching up with my zombie comix....

Savages were pretty awesome last night at the Bodega. Live, they truly sound like the feral, wired-up, twitchy id to the xx's glacial, crystalline ego. The look is perfect - expressionist, angular, all dry ice and shadows - but the sound was sheer punk rock intensity - industrial, like sheet metal and shattering glass. I liked the way the guitarist never once looked up, like she was concentrating fully on the machine and only too aware that if she wasn't careful it'd take her fingers off! A big shout out to the guy next to me on facebook, too - what do these idiots write: "too busy typing this shit to listen to the actual band...!?"
