Sultry Sunday morning

Funchal starts slowly on a Sunday. It’s just great to relax and head for the Cathedral. I love the eleven o’clock service.

I’m not Catholic. I don’t understand religious Portuguese, and I can only get the general outline of the sermon from the inspirational young priest.

The music and a truly spiritual atmosphere makes it special.

A gentle wander by the sea and a crazy bus journey back to the hotel and I’m getting ready to head back down for a late lunch and then the final concert of the Piano Fest in the Teatro Balthasar Dias, beautiful and modelled on La Scala (but much, much tinier)…..

It’s at moments like this, when friends are packing, that I feel so pleased I have another week here.
