Derelict Sunday

We pulled in off the road at Amulree on our way home so that I could blip this sad sight.

Back in the 1970s, when my mum was the teacher at Amulree School, this was the Braan Bar, the local pub in what were originally the stables of Amulree Hotel. I spent many an evening in lively company there on weekend visits until my mum retired and had to vacate the schoolhouse*.

Sad to see both this and the hotel itself looking derelict.

* The school and schoolhouse were destroyed in a fire the night my mum moved out - quite a drama, nothing to do with her! - and eventually a more modern school and adjoining house were built. Unfortunately the school closed permanently in 1998 and it looks as if the building is now a private home.

I'm now back home after a most enjoyable break in beautiful Perthshire.
