change your energy use

I wasn't sure how much daylight would be left for a walk after I'd finished work. There certainly was plenty of rain left to fall, though, and this photo doesn't do justice to quite how wet it was. My feet and legs also  got rather damp, walking through this long grass to the solar array at the back of Dumfries and Galloway College.

This is the college where D is currently studying art, and where I learned about photography back in the day. It has a Green Energy Hub which provides heat, power and hot water to the college as well as being a valuable teaching aid for students. As well as the solar arrays, there is a wind turbine, heat pumps, battery storage and EV charging points. A few weeks ago, the college was listed as a finalist in the Scottish Green Energy Awards for 2022.

We don't have any of these technologies at home, but all our electricity is provided by Bulb (soon to be taken over by Octopus Energy) and comes from 100% renewable sources.

As I returned home, the rain continued. I passed the Whitesands, where the Nith was rising and was almost into the carpark, and through the fields of Irongray which were more like lakes, and listened to the news from COP27. Urgent action needed.
