The Oysterman
Brooklyn was playing soccer locally for a change. We donned our “uniforms”, t-shirts with the team logo and her number, and headed over the Solomon’s bridge to watch her 9:00 game. Her team controlled the ball for most of the game but had a hard time scoring; we made only one goal. Brooklyn was scored on twice - her diving body was just short of making the stop. Some of the opposing team’s parents heckled her. She told them to leave her alone. After the game, after hugging us, she went over and apologized for fussing at adults. That shows class. We were next door to an arts center with outdoor sculptures. I really like this one that speaks of our history. Before the Navy base was built, our ancestors were either farmers or waterman. My paternal grandfather would crab in the summer and catch oysters in the colder months. I remember his “culling board.” Hubby and I found a few cans of food for kitties at the nearby grocery store before leaving Calvert. We were still tired from yesterday and we took a nap after lunch. I’ll make German pork for dinner, letting it cook in the crock pot so it will be ready after 5:00 Mass. Then maybe we’ll read. Hope your weekend is turning out beautiful. Thanks for stopping by. Be safe and stay healthy. “The sea, once it casts its spell, holds one in its net of wonder forever.” Jacques Yves Cousteau
