Snow Buntings
It was a beautiful sunny day in Birsay with blue skies and hardly a wind- much more like summer than autumn.
On the first of October. I saw my first snow bunting of the season on this beach and today I saw ten. They were very flighty and it took me a while, at a distance to actually count the ten. Also nearby were seven redwings, lots of small waders- sanderling, turnstone, ringed plover, redshank, dunlin, a few purple sandpipers etc. Couple shots in extra, a redwing and a drake wigeon.
