Red Beach, Santorini

Our first stop this morning was Red Beach. We did have to wait a little while for part of it to come out of the shadow. The rocks were a stunning colour.

We started the day by watching another sunrise and finished it with a sunset from near Fira (see extra). In between we saw the Akrotiri lighthouse then had lunch at a nearby restaurant that overlooked the caldera. It was quite windy today but we found a quiet beach, with unusual rock formations, at Mesa Pigadia and had a couple of swims.

Today was a special day in Greece, Oxi Day (Day of No). It marks the day when the Greek Prime Minister rejected an ultimatum by Mussolini in WW2. We saw lots of Greek flags flying and the school children were taking part in a procession.
