Back home

To my soggy garden.

Avanti, the day after the strike, were still cancelling trains all over the place. After my wonderful short break in London, I had to try to get home. Waking early, I aimed for the 8.50 Glasgow train. Got into the first first class carriage, grabbed a seat, and intended to upgrade.

Everyone else seemed to have the same idea. Bustling crowds dived into available spaces. It was quite tense and stressy.

Then there was an Avanti announcement. The voice came over exactly as I remember Pinky and Perky. It was hilarious. Everyone relaxed and burst out laughing.

And the guy checking the tickets wouldn’t take our money for the upgrades. He said there’d be someone along later.

There wasn’t.
