Honey fungus

A fascinating if very wet day in Castlemilk with Scottish Badgers undertaking the survey training. They are not particularly fussy eaters and one, or more, repeatedly crossed this tree trunk (the moss has been rubbed away by a badger tummy) to chew away at the honey fungus.
One of trainers was formerly a wildlife police officer and we got an idea of the prevalence of illegal badger activity, particularly in former mining communities in the central belt. It often goes hand in hand with flinch trapping, tapping in to a lucrative market for bullfinches and other colourful small birds across Europe.
Anyway looking forward to getting my allocated square kilometre to survey and a sett in Pollok Park to monitor on a forever basis.
